Urgent: Please Join Us at These Two Important Meetings
1. Planning Commission Meeting—early September 2008
When: September 2008—exact date to be announced
Where: Oakland City Hall, One Frank H. Ogawa Plaza; Hearing Room 1
What: Approval of Development Plan & the Final EIR for the Oak Knoll Community development, located at the former Oak Knoll Naval Hospital at Keller Ave. and Mountain Blvd., Oakland, Ca.
SunCal will request Planning Commission approval for its Preliminary Development Plan and Final Environmental Impact Report. Unfortunately, the plan very likely includes razing the landmark Knoll and removing mature oak woodlands in the northeast open space in order to build housing. The project presumably will still call for 960 residential units, a commercial area, village parks and some open space.
The Oak Knoll Coalition will attend this meeting to advocate for protecting the Knoll and oak woodlands as open space. Preservation of these scenic landmarks has been a major goal of neighborhood activism for over 15 years.
PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT BY ATTENDING THIS MEETING!
If you need a ride, please call 635-6006 for carpool information
If you cannot attend the meeting to voice your opinion, you can submit your comments to the city beforehand. Anyone in the community can comment.
2. Oakland City Council Meeting—Fall 2008
When: Date to be announced
Where: Oakland City Hall, One Frank H. Ogawa Plaza; Hearing Room 1
What: Approval of Development Plan & Final EIR for the Oak Knoll Community.
Official documents, including environmental studies, can be found on the Oakland City website link below. The Environmental Impact Report addresses these topics: aesthetics, air quality, cultural/historic resources, noise and traffic.
The Oak Knoll Coalition has consistently advocated for the following goals at the former Oak Knoll Naval Hospital Base:
• Preservation of the northeast oak woodlands, ridge and knoll
• Creek and watershed preservation
• Expand conservation area to include privately owned 14-acre parcel south of site
• Public recreation opportunities
• Reasonable housing density
• Preservation of Club Knoll for community use
Please help us advocate for these important goals by attending these meetings.
You can also send your comments to Larry Reid (City Council) and the Planning Commission.
